Ana Pitchon
About me
I am a cultural anthropologist with doctoral training in ecological and environmental anthropology. My primary expertise is in the field of fisheries anthropology, with concentrations in fisheries management, marine protected areas, coastal community development, and most recently, the exploration of alternatives to wild-capture fisheries including aquaculture.
I have conducted extensive fieldwork in the Southeastern United States, Mexico, Chile, and Europe. I have been contracted by the South Atlantic Fisheries Management Council to work on Social Impact Assessments and community profile studies and, the Pacific Regional Fisheries Policy Center (NOAA) to conduct research on commercial fisheries in the Port of Los Angeles. Prior to joining the CSU, I worked as a post-doc at the Institute for Fisheries Management and Coastal Community Development in Denmark , conducting multiple research projects funded by the European Union.
I am currently collaborating with the Northwest Regional Fisheries Science Center (NOAA) on a project funded by a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration - Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act National Standard 8 research program to assess multiple variables of subsistence fishing in Los Angeles County.
