About me
Dr Garone is an environmental historian, also trained in ecology. He has done extensive work on the history and ecology of the Central Valley, and is presently completing a manuscript on that subject for the University of California Press, entitled "The Fall and Rise of the Wetlands of California's Great Central Valley." His research focuses on the impact of the historical development of the Central Valley--especially in terms of agriculture and water development projects--on wetlands, riparian habitat, and grasslands. He analyzes trends in habitat restoration, particularly in response to the importance of the Valley’s wetlands for migratory waterfowl, shorebirds, and other waterbirds, as well as various threatened and endangered species.
