Dr. Greg Crawford
About me
I am a physical oceanographer specifically interested in physical processes in oceans & lakes and how they affect other aspects of the aquatic environment, such as biogeochemical cycling and sediment transport. I make oceanographic measurements and use computers to analyze and model the ocean environment.
What I enjoy most about oceanography is the interdisciplinary nature of the field. I am basically a physicist working on ocean environmental questions and problems. However, the ocean is a complex system and the biology, chemistry, geology, and physics of the ocean are all tied together in numerous and complicated ways.
Tackling the most important issues in oceanography requires expertise in many fields. No one can do it all, so we form ad hoc groups involving biologists, chemists, physicists, geologists, and/or engineers, depending on the project. I share my expertise and I learn from others with different perspectives.
